Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the mass airflow sensor on a 2006 Chevy Impala, fundamentally the same for model years 2006 through 2008. You'll need a Torx 30 bit and a socket wrench as well as a new mass air flow sensor from 1A Auto.
The mass air flow sensor is located on the air box on the driver side. You'll need to unclip the two clips that hold the air box cover in place. Then give it a good tug up because there are two tabs that sit into the bottom of the other part of the housing. Locate the screw clamp on the mass air flow sensor. I'm using a flat head screw driver to loosen up on that clamp. Your clamp might be different if it's been replaced or what not over the course of the years of the car. It's probably going to be a stainless steel screw clamp, but it might have a different head. Go ahead and disconnect by pressing in the tab on your mass air flow sensor and then remove the rubber portion of the hose and pull your mass airflow housing out.
There are two Torx 30 screws that hold the mass airflow sensor to the housing cover. Go ahead and fast forward as I remove or unscrew those and ultimately take them out. Once you've got your two screws out you can go ahead and remove the mass air flow sensor from the air box housing cover.
Going back in, you'll notice that it's notched. There's a peg on the air box cover and a hole in the mass airflow sensor. Those are going to line up so you can only put it in one way. Then go ahead and press it in firmly and reinstall your two Torx 30 screws. We'll go ahead and fast forward as I do that.
Going back in, you'll notice the two tabs on the bottom of that housing cover. They're going to go into corresponding holes in the other part of the air box right there, so you're going to want to make sure that those slide in before you clamp it and make sure that you're not pinching any of the wires. I'll go ahead and fast forward as I do that. Now secure the two clips. Go ahead and reinstall the rubber hose that goes to the mass air flow sensor and use a screw driver and tighten down on your hose clamp. Then once you've done that, don't forget to plug in your mass air flow sensor.
