Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the headlights on this 2002 Suzuki XL-7. We show you on the driver side, but the passenger side is the same procedure. The items you'll need for this include new headlights from 1AAuto.com, 10mm socket and ratchet, and a flat blade screwdriver.
There are four clips lining the top of your grille. To remove them, pry out the center and pull the clip up and out. We'll just fast-forward as Don does the other three. Carefully pry out the outside of your grille and pull out. There are two pins in the same spot on the other side. Just pull each of those out and the grille is free.
Your headlight is secured by these three 10mm bolts: two here and one up top. We'll just fast-forward as Don removes those. Once those are removed, you can pull the headlight straight out. On the back, you want to push the tab on this harness and pull it free. Pull this harness off the bracket, and then push the tab and disconnect the harness. If you're looking to service your bulbs, pull off this boot, lift up this clip, and pull the bulb out. If all you were doing was servicing it, you'd obviously put it back.
You also want to twist out these sockets. We do have to take these and put them onto our new headlight. To replace this bulb, you just push in and twist out. For this one, you just pull it out and push it back in. We're going to twist these sockets into our new headlight. Pull off your boot from your new headlight. This will go back in just as it would in the original. Put the boot back in place.
Now to give you a better look, on the left is the new headlight from 1A Auto; on the right is the old one. You can see they're identical. The new one is a lot brighter and a lot better looking, but they'll mount exactly the same. Take your new headlight, reconnect that harness, and put it back onto that bracket. Reconnect the other harness and push your light back into place. We'll fast-forward as Don replaces those three 10mm bolts.
Take your grille and push those four pins back into place. Now replace those four clips along the top, pushing down the center to lock them. You're all set. As you can see right here, on the left is the old headlight; on the right is the new one. The new one, not only does it look a lot better, it'll also let you see a lot farther at night.
