In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a spark plug on this 2004 Volkswagen Jetta with the 1.8T engine. The items you'll need for this are new spark plugs from 1AAuto.com, a Phillips screwdriver, a flat-blade screwdriver, a gap tool, a 5/8 inch spark plug socket and ratchet, and for spark plugs three and four, you're going to need a 10 millilmeter socket, and for four, you're going to need a 5 millimeter Allen bit.
First, we have to remove the engine cover by loosening these four Phillips clips. Just loosen it while pulling up on the engine cover. Then, the engine cover pulls off, and you can set it aside.
To access spark plugs one and two, you just push on the tab on the harness on your ignition coil and pull the harness free. Then, pry up the ignition coil, and your spark plug is down there. We're going to show you on a harder one the full process. For this, we'll just put the ignition coil back and reconnect the harness.
For three and four, you're going to first have to remove this 10 millimeter nut, right here. Then pull this small air box off and set it aside. You can now access three, and it's the same process as one and two. To get to the fourth one, you have to remove these three 5 millimeter Allen bolts. We'll just fast-forward as Don removes those. Pull the bracket off and set it aside. Then, just like before, push on the tab and pull the harness free. You may need to pry it to separate it. Then just pry the ignition coil up and out.
Using a 5/8-inch spark plug socket and a ratchet, you just want to loosen up and remove the spark plug, and it pulls right out.
On the left is the old spark plug. On the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they'll fit exactly the same. You should always check to make sure the gap is right using a gap tool. You want it to be .028, and you want it to have just a little bit of resistance on the gap tool. If it doesn't, push the tab in or pry it out a little bit so that it does. Then put it into your spark plug socket, lower it down into the cylinder, and tighten it up.
Push your ignition coil back down into place and reconnect the harness. We'll fast forward as Don tightens those up. Now replace that small air box and the 10 millimeter nut that holds it into place, and just tighten that up. Line up the four Phillips clips with these four holes. Just push the engine cover down into place and tighten up those four clips. You're all set.

In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace spark plugs on this VW Passat. This vehicle has the 1.8T engine, which is basically the same engine for a lot of the different VWs and Audis. The tools you'll need are a large flat-blade screwdriver, a 5/8 sparkplug socket, and then a ratchet and extension for that socket. As you'll see in this video, my socket is old and warn, so I use a magnet to make up for that, as well as I also use some gasket material just to glue the plug into the socket when I'm reinstalling it. You want to remove this cover here. There are three little clips. Use the large screwdriver. Turn 90 degrees. Let them pop up. 90 degrees Then you tap them a little bit. 90 degrees. It will pop up.
This cover comes right up and off. Each coil has a little plug on it. You just push on that tab and pull the harness off. Obviously, if you're doing all four you do that for each one. Just move the coil a little bit. Pull it right up and out. Now, it helps to have a sparkplug socket. Mine is a little old and warn, so what I actually do is just take basically a piece of paper towel and just stuff it in a little bit. These sockets are designed to actually grab onto the sparkplug, but since mine is as old as it is it doesn't actually do that anymore. The paper towel just helps it accomplish its mission. You just put that right down in. This sparkplug seems nice and loose. It didn't work. The other option is to take a magnet and pull it up and out. I'm going to reinstall the plug. I put a little gasket material in there, so that the plug pretty much stays in there even upside down. This just gives me a couple seconds to put the plug right down in. I'm just looking, making sure there's equal space right around here to make sure that I put the plug in nice and straight. Then, you want to tighten these two about 20 to 25 foot pounds.
A new coil from 1A Auto; it's just like the original. Go down in. Put it in nice and straight. Just press it right down in and reconnect it. It's a direct fit. Then, repeat for the rest of them. Just place your cover back on. Basically, just use your oil filter or your oil fill as a separating point. Large screwdriver. Press those down and turn them 90 degrees.

In this video, we'll show you how to replace ignition coils on this. This subject vehicle is a 2003 VW Passat. It has the 1.8 Turbocharged or 1.8T motor which is the same for a lot of different VWs as well as Audis. The only tool you'll need is a large flat blade screwdriver on this vehicle. It may be a little different for the Audi if the engine vanity cover is different.
You want to remove this cover here. There are three little clips. Use a large screwdriver, turn 90 degrees, let them pop up, and 90 degrees, here. I'm going to tap it a little bit, 90 degrees. They pop up and then this cover rights up and off. Each coil has a little plug on. You just push on that tab and then pull the harness off. Obviously, if you're doing all four you do that for each one and then just kind of move the coil a little bit. Pull it right off and out.
The new coil from 1A Auto is just like the original. You go down in nice and straight and just press it right down in and reconnect it. It's a direct fit and then repeat for the rest of them.
Just place your cover back on. You could just use your oil filter or your oil filler as a centering point. Now use a screwdriver to press those down. Turn to 90 degrees.
