In this video we're going to show you how to replace a front window regulator on this 2004 Volkswagen Jetta and we show you on the driver side, but the passenger side is similar in procedure. The items you need is a new window regulator from 1AAuto.com, flat blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, T20 and T30 Torx bits and ratchet, 10mm socket, pliers, drill with 5/16 inch drill bit, rivet gun and rivets and some electrical tape.
Start off by prying off this panel inside your pull handle. Now lift your switch panel up and out and just push the tab on this harness and disconnect it and then using a Phillips screwdriver you want to remove these three Phillips screws. We'll just fast forward as Don removes those and at the bottom of your door panel you want to remove these three T20 Torx bolts and we'll fast forward as Don removes those. Then just remove this Phillips screw up here in the top corner of your door panel. Reach in behind the door panel and just pull out, release the clips then lift it up in out of the window and over the lock .Then, you want to pull back on this clip and lift the hook up and out of the door handle. Push the tab on this harness and release it and the same for this, push the tabs on either side of this harness and pull it free and then just push the tabs on the rest of these harnesses and pull them free and now your door panel is free. Pull these harnesses from this bracket and you just push the tabs on either side and pull the harnesses free and do the same thing for the speaker harness and for this harness you want to just pry down the bottom. Once you pry down hard enough the harness will pop free and you just pull it off. Then, pull the harness from these tabs on the door and you could just pull these clips right out of the door but they typically break so we recommend doing it this way and just pulling the harness from them. Now, just pull this gasket out.
Flip down these two rubber covers and now remove these three T30 bolts and we'll just fast forward as Don does this. Now, the motor will just pull free. Now the motor is removed you can lift the window up by hand and you want to just lift it up until you can see these clamps on the window right here and then you want to remove those two T20 bolts. Now separate those clamps from the window and pull the window up and now you want to remove the series of 10 mm bolts lining the window regulator. Now, we'll just fast forward as Don removes these. Using a flat blade screwdriver push the four tabs on this clip and push it through the panel. Now, you want to lift the panel up and slide it to the outside of the vehicle and then down. Now, push the door handle cable through the panel and then push this tab on the side here up and over the edge of the door and angle the door panel down, pull he regulator out and then lift it up and over the lock rod pushing this gasket through. Now, just release this harness by pushing on the tab and pulling it free.
Next, remove these two rubber caps and using a pair of pliers just pinch the sides of these clips and just pull them free. We'll fast forward as Don does the rest of these. Next you want to drill out these four rivets that hold in your speaker and we'll just fast forward as Don does this and it helps to remove that top cover when you do this. Ppry the speaker free.
On the left is the old window regulator; on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they're going to fit exactly the same. Reattach the speaker, lie it up and make sure that you have the connector for the harness facing up and we're using rivets to rivet it up together. You can do it this way or some appropriate size coarse thread or sheet metal bolts will work to attach it as well. If you removed it replace the top part of the speaker and then replace those harness clips. Then remove the packing wire tie and then push these rubber caps into your new window regulator.
Pull this harness back through your regulator panel, pulling that gasket into place. Reclip the harness to the panel and then reconnect the harness. Push the door handle cable back through the panel and then put it up over the lock rod and over the gasket, tuck the regulator back up into the door, making sure your harnesses aren't going to get pinched behind it and then push it back up into place. You do want to make sure that you pull your door handle cable gasket back through the panel. Now do the same thing with your lock rod gasket and pull it back up through and into the panel and then put this insulation back down over your lock rod, if it fell off, and replace those 10mm bolts. We'll just fast forward as Don does this.
Now, you want to loosen up these 10mm bolts on your new window clamps and then you want to make sure that those clamps separate and then slide your window down into place and once it's securely in the clamps just tighten up those bolts. Push those rubber caps back into place and replace your motor and replace those three T30 bolts. Now, reconnect your harnesses and with your motor harness make sure that you push that tab back up to lock it. Now if you pull these clips out with the harness then you can just push the clips back in. If you pulled the harness from the clips then you just want to retape them to those clips with some electrical tape. Now to reinstall your door panel, you just want to reconnect these harnesses and then take your door handle rod and you want to hook it back into the door handle and then slide that clip back into the door handle. Now, put the panel up over the lock rod and then down into the window sill. Make sure you pull your harness for your switch back up through and then line up the clips and hit them back into the door. Now, we'll fast forward as Don replaces and tightens up those three Phillips screws. Then, replace those three T20s and replace that Phillips screw up in the top corner and tighten it up. Now reconnect your switch panel and then just push the panel down into place and then line up this panel and push it firmly into place and you're all set.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a window regulator on this 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. It's the same part and similar process on these Jettas from 2005-2010. The items you'll need for this include a new front window regulator from 1AAuto.com, a T20 Torx driver, a T25 and T30 Torx bit and ratchet, a flat blade screwdriver, and a pair of pliers.
Pry up on the front of the switch panel, and if it doesn't pop up entirely then just pry it from the back. Then it'll pull free, and you can just pull that out. The passenger side is similar, but instead of prying out the switch panel, you want to just pry out on this pull handle. Behind it you'll see these two T30 screws. You want to slide the inner part of the handle back towards the door and out. Then there are the two T30 screws on the driver's side. Then there are four T20 screws, thre at the bottom and one up at the top inside. We'll fast-forward here as I remove all those screws. Then just pull out on the edge of the door panel. You want to do this all the way around the outside edge. Once you've released all of those clips, just slide the door panel up and out of the window sill.
Then pull the door panel back. Push out on this clip, and then unhook the cable from the door handle, and then push the tabs on either side of this harness for your speaker and just disconnect it. Then push the tab on this harness while lifting up on that purple lever and the harness will release. Then your door panel's free.Pry of this panel on the side of the door and any clips that get left behind, pull them out and then just slide them back into place on the panel.
Now, using a T20 Torx driver, you want to just go through this hole right here and loosen up the T20 Torx bolt. You want to keep loosening it until it starts to firm up. Once you've loosened that screw, you can just pull out your lock bezel and then slide your door handle forward. Using a flat blade screwdriver, pry out this clip. That'll release the door handle cable, and you can just pull your door handle free.
Now remove this series of T30 Torx bolts that line the entire door, and we'll fast forward as Mike does that. Now remove this T20 Torx screw right here, and we left one T30 screw on the side of the door just to kind of help hold the panel in place. So we'll just go ahead and remove that the rest of the way, pull out on the panel, and it'll pull free. Pull out on these red clips on the harnesses, and then push the tabs on the two harnesses connected to your window motor and pull those free. Your window motor is held in with three T25 Torx screws. Go ahead and remove those. Now pull the motor free. Now loosen up these two T30 Torx bolts on the window clamps, and then slide your window up and out.
Your window regulator is held in with a series of T30 Torx bolts, and you want to remove the four that are around this plate as well, because that's part of your window regulator. We'll fast-forward as Mike removes all of those bolts. Now lift your window regulator up and out. On the left is the old window regulator; on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical enough, and exactly the same.
Lower your new window regulator down into place. Once you get it lined up, just replace those T30 Torx screws and tighten them all up. Now push your motor back into place, and if it doesn't seem to be going all the way back in, you can reach onto the other side and just pull on one of the cables. Turn the crank and the motor will push in. Once it does, just replace those three T25 Torx screws and tighten them up. Reconnect your harnesses.
Now, to replace your door panel, reconnect this harness and push that purple lever back down. Reconnect your speaker, and then re-hook your door handle cable into place. Slide that back and put the cable back in. Put your door panel back up to the window sill, and make sure the clips on the edges have lined up, and then hit them back into place. Now we'll fast-forward as Mike replaces those two T30s and the four T20 screws and tightens them up. Slide this handle back into place, and then put your switch panel back down.
Now, put the vehicle in accessory, and just roll your windows all the way down so you can access those window clamp screws. Then loosen both of those up and then slide your window back down into place and into those clamps. Tighten up the two window clamps. Now make sure the three tabs on your door handle bracket are into the slots, and you want to take two of the slightly longer screws and just have those ready to start. Line up your exterior door panel and just push it into place. Make sure all the holes have lined up, and that your door handle holes have lined up, and the bottom lip is going down underneath. When it's all set, just twist in those two slightly longer screws to just kind of hold everything together. Replace this T20 screw, tighten it up, and we'll fast-forward as Mike replaces those T30 screws around the outside edge and tightens all of them up.
Take your door handle. Feed it back into the door, and then take the door handle cable and re-clip it to the handle. Make sure you slide the door handle back and into place. Then take your lock bezel and push it in. Tighten up the T20 screw on the side. Then line up the clips on this panel and push the panel back into place.

The passenger window regulator had the handle anchor nuts in the wrong location. I had to reuse my panel and move the window regulator over to my old panel. If the panel had the anchor nuts for both handle options then it would of worked fine. The glass grips seem pretty light duty and were a struggle to align. The on-line video was helpful but didnt include the window alignment details.
Put it in almost 2 yrs ago n still works
I purchased this item because of the price. I was concerned about quality but most other solutions were more than double the price. When it was delivered, the box it was shipped in was too big and inadequately filled with packing, allowing the item to move around in the box. The outermost edge, the one to the left in the picture, was bent slightly. I bent it back as best I could but it was not ideal. I needed the part so shipping it back would have been an enormous time waster. All of the fasteners o the item were loose, including one of the clips that holds the glass being completely unfastened and loose in the bag. After installing it on the door and as I was attaching the interior door panel, I noticed that the two captive nuts for the door handle to attach to were missing as were any holes in the sheet metal to screw through. I wasn't going to take it all apart and ship it off and wait for a suspect part from lord knows where. I drilled two appropriately sized holes and
It did not have mounting holes for my Jetta MK4 Wolfsburg for the arm rest. OK, poop happens but the rep wants me to drill some arm rest holes-NOPE! I sent photos of old and new regulator with the missing holes. We rechecked the Vin#. All good. The kicker is it had to go to the review board or something as such. I think it should have gone lets find you a part ASAP or please return. After a couple emails back and forth I went for a refund. The regulator looked of good quality.

I only attempted this replacement because 1A Auto had a fantastic, step-by-step video showing how to do it. With that as a resource, I helped a friend swap out both front-door regulators after the driver's side window dropped inside the door. Now they work perfectly!
This did fit the RH front door of my Jetta but the nutserts were in the wrong positions so I had to drill out and insert my own. Most people would not have the tool to do that. When I told customer service they offered me a replacement or nothing at all, and questioned if I had the right vehicle or an aftermarket door card. Who has even heard of an aftermarket door card?
