Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're looking at a 2005 Jetta.
You can see on the wheels there's little black eyes, right in the center. These caps 1A Auto sells, will fit the correct wheels correctly. You can see on this 2005 that larger section of the center hole is just over 2 ½"?. Measuring the inside of the hole, it's about 2 ¼"?. The outside diameter of the opening is just over 2 ½"? and inside is 2 ¼"?. The caps just push on.
If you wanted to remove an old one, you'd just use a flat blade screwdriver to pry them off. This is a 2004 Jetta with aluminum wheels and you might think that they're interchangeable, but they're not. You can see the outside is just about 2 ¼"? on this wheel and the inside is just over 2"?. This cap is too large for that application. As you can see here on our '05 Jetta, you see that wheel in need of a cap.
The new one from 1A Auto just goes on, and it would really help here if I had two hands to push the cap on one to hold the cap in place and the other to push but I'm trying to be cameraman and mechanic at the same time.
Finally, I just get it in there with my palm, push it in to start it, and it might take a gentle little tap to finish it off. The cap is on. Just to make the wheel complete, you might also want to get a set of the wheel lug covers. They just push on. This can be confusing to some people. I've seen these caps broken because they have a little Allen hold in the center, so a lot of people think that you twist them off, but actually you just use a pick, go in and pull the caps off and again, they push on. I just put them into place and then push with my thumb and set them. Those are interchangeable for many different years of aluminum-wheel VWs.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
