Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the wiper transmission linkages in this 2003 Nissan Frontier. It's pretty much the same operation for the model years 2001 through 2004. For this repair you will need a new wiper transmission from 1A Auto; 10, 12, 13, and 14 millimeter sockets and ratchet; 14 millimeter wrench; and a Phillips screwdriver.
Locate the cover and lift up. You're going to use a 12 millimeter socket and socket wrench to remove that nut. With the nut up, go ahead and remove the wiper arm by carefully rocking it back and forth until it comes off. Do the same for the other side, lift up the cover. Use your 12 millimeter. Remove the nut. Once you've got the nut off, go ahead and remove that wiper arm the same way you did the other side. Go ahead and remove the rubber grommet that goes around the antenna. Unscrew your antenna and set it aside. Go ahead and pull up on the rubber seal there that goes along the cowl. Now, you can go ahead and pop off the cowl. It's just held in by some plastic clips. Go ahead and pull that out and put it aside. You're going to go ahead and do the same with the other side. You can go ahead and shut the hood at this point.
There are three Phillips head screws that hold on this plastic cover; remove those. Here, you'll notice the wiper linkage is straight coming off the motor. Using a 14 millimeter wrench, I'm going to take off the nut and washer that hold the wiper linkage to the wiper motor. I'm going to go ahead and fast forward as I do that. Once you can go ahead and get the nut and washer off by hand, then you're going to use your hand and you're going to pop the linkage off of the motor. There are three 10 millimeter nuts that hold this end of the transmission in place; go ahead and remove those. I'll fast forward as I do it. There's a shot of the other side. I want to do the same for these three 10 millimeter nuts. From the driver's side, go ahead and pull the transmission out.
On top is the old linkage. The bottom is the new linkage from 1A Auto. They are the same. It's a good exact fit replacement. This will fix your problem, if one of your wipers doesn't work because one of the posts is stripped. The new part from 1A Auto comes with screws instead of nuts. Go ahead and take those out before you install it. From the driver's side, insert the transmission. Here you can see how I've got to hold it up, line it up in place and then install the three screws that hold this in place. Go ahead for the passenger side linkage. Hold that up in place. Line it up with the holes. Install the three bolts and tighten those up. I'll fast forward as I do that. Install the linkage to the wiper motor. If you remember, it was coming straight off. Go ahead and install the washer and nut. I'll fast forward as I do that. You can see here as we operate the wiper motor, it's turning as it's supposed to.
Line up the clips with the according slots there. Go ahead and push it down and into place. Go ahead and do the same for this side. Then reinstall that weather stripping. I'll fast forward as I do that. Go ahead and shut the hood. The wiper transmission comes with new bolts, or nuts, I should say. They're 13 millimeters. Go ahead and remove them. Install your wiper arms and then put them down. You'll see how I align the wiper arm against the glass there. Reinstall that 13 millimeter nut. Go ahead and tighten it up. I will go ahead and do the same for the opposite side. Remove the nut. Install your wiper arm. Line it up on the glass. Go ahead and tighten it up. Go ahead and reinstall your antenna. Then, slide the rubber grommet over the top and secure it. As you can see here, we're running the wiper arms. The transmission is working as it should.

The video makes this look easier than it really is. Nuts and bolts are something I can deal with. Plastic fasteners on a 15 year old truck break. The local stores don't carry Nissan. I will try the dealer in the morning when the Grandkids are back in school.
