In this video, we'll be replacing headlights in this 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. Basically, it's the same as all 2004 to 2008 Grand Prix's. This will only require a small screwdriver and a pair of pliers.
Now, maybe you need to replace your headlight if it was broken or damaged, and looking at this car, it's a pretty decent looking car, but you know, maybe you just want to freshen things up a little bit. Now, here you can see that new driver's side headlight is a lot clearer, a little bit nicer looking. Okay, now and here with both lights and the parking lights changed. This is a 120,000-mile car. It looks like we just took about 50 to 60,000 miles off of it. You know, getting some new lights and a little bit of time, and with these lights, it is a very little bit of time, as you'll see, and you can give your Grand Prix a face lift.
Okay, so let's get to how easy this really is. There's a white tab here. You pull up on it. You only pull up a certain amount as you can see here with the light out, and you can see it when you push down. That's how it locks in, and then, there's the hole, but if you pull up too far, it actually locks again. So, you just want to pull up, looks like about 1/2 inch. So, you pull that tab up about 1/2 inch. Sorry, I blocked it there for you a little bit, and then, you pull the inside kind of out and your light comes out. Then, you flip the light forward, and it's a single harness. You just squeeze. There's a little lock on it, and you pull, and then, you can pull the light out and service the bulbs or switch the light or whatever you want to do.
If you are going to be switching your headlight assemblies, you want to pull this little clip off. You see that rusty medal clip there and I'll show it to you in a second. You are going to need to swap that over. On our new lights, it didn't have that clip, so I'll show you how to swap that over. Basically, you need a little screwdriver, but you just need a little electrical screwdriver or something that's small and round. Just kind of get that clip started. Now, if you're from Texas or Arizona, you probably won't have to mess with a rusty clip. The thing will probably just pull out with a set of pliers. But, I work it in there. You know, us being from up here in the northeast in the rust belt, things tend to stick together a little more. So, I'm just working that screwdriver in there a little bit and getting it started. See here in a second. Probably could have cut a little bit of this out, but hey. It's not all glamour.
So, you can see there I just kind of got that started, and I'm going to use some pliers, and just kind of work it back and forth and pull it the rest of the way out. There it goes. Then, on your new harness, it really is pretty simple. Just kind of put it in there and slide it right in. Okay, then, now we can reinstall. Now, these are two locating tabs. That pin goes into that hole, and then on the outside, there's a locating pin in there, and it goes into that hole. Okay. So first, we plug in the harness again, and then, clip it on. Now, you want to make sure your wires are clear of anywhere they get pinched.
Okay, so now, we're going to get it in place, and you want to put the outside into the fender first. Then, we'll change, and then, you can look down in and get those pins lined up into their holes. Then, basically just kind of give a push onto the inside. Clip it in. Here I clip it in, and then push your white holding tab down, and you're set. You've installed a nice new headlight on your Grand Prix.
