Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace your coolant recovery tank or radiator overflow bottle. This is a 2007 Audi A4. This part is pretty much the same for this generation of Audi. The only tools you'll need are a Phillips Screwdriver and a pair of pliers. And, obviously you'll need a new coolant recovery tank from 1aauto.com.
Radiator overflow bottles are right here on the driver's side. Take off the cap. Replacing this is fairly simple and, usually, if you want to replace it, it's because either it's cracked here, or cracked down here and has allowed the system to become depressurized. In that case, if it's cracked down here, you probably won't have any radiator fluid. You can drain the radiator fluid and have a pan underneath, if you do have fluid in there.
For our purposes, for this video, we're actually not going to take this all the way out because ours is still in good shape, but, we'll show you the process. It's simple. It's two clamps: one on top, one on bottom; they both work the same way. Squeeze the pliers and pull the clamp off. Then use your pliers and grab onto the hose. Twist back and forth and then pull the hose off with a twisting motion. Again, have a pan underneath if you have fluid that's going to drain out. Once you have the hoses disconnected, remove this Phillips screw here and then your bottle will lift up and out.
Two tabs here, go into the slots on the brackets. Make sure they go down in. Put it in place. Replace this screw. Tighten. Put your hose back on. Obviously check the condition of these hoses, make sure they're not dry and cracked. If they are, replace them. Squeeze the clamp. Put it back in place, and make sure it's secure. Fill your bottle above the min, below the max. You'll want to put the cap back on, run the vehicle. Check it occasionally when you first run it because it will probably take some of the fluid into the system, and you will need to refill it some. Just keep an eye on it for the first few times you drive it.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
