Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the 4X4 selector switch on this 1996 Chevy Tahoe and the only tools that you're going to need for this are an 8mm wrench and a flat blade screwdriver.
The first thing that you're going to want to do is disconnect your negative battery terminal, so using an 8mm wrench, just loosen that up and pull it free. Push the brake, turn on the vehicle and pull the shifter all the way down. Pull out on the dash panel and you want to do this all the way around it. Once you have it pulled free, look back behind it and you want to disconnect the series of harnesses. Just push the tabs and pull them free. Do the same thing on this one on the other side, and then your dash panel is free.
Now, flip your dash panel over and on the back, you just want to push these two tabs or pushing down on the switch and it pops right out. Now, take your new 4X4 Selector Switch and push it up through.
To reinstall your dash panel, you want to just put it back over the steering wheel and then reconnect those four harnesses. Now, push the dash panel back into place and you will need to pull that cup holder ash tray out. Then, put your shifter back and turn the vehicle off. Now, push your negative battery cable back into place and tighten up that 8mm bolt, and you're all set.
