Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, the gas tank on our 2005 Chevy Silverado is hanging down, so we looked underneath and noticed that one the straps is broken, so we're going to show you replacing the gas tank straps. This is the same for most of the Chevy and GMC trucks from this generation, 1999 to 2006. You'll need new gas tank straps from 1AAuto.com, jack and jack stands, and 13 to 15 millimeter sockets, with a ratchet and extension.
As we go underneath the truck, you can see there's the strap right there. I'm just going to work it out from between the drive shaft. You can see up in here where it broke off from, right up in there, that slot. We're going to support the gas tank with a jack.
So, you can see this shield is not exactly held on correctly, but there are 13 millimeter bolts on this side: one, two, and then there are two more back towards the back. Remove those bolts and pull that shield down. We'll just fast forward as we do that. Now, there are two bolts . well the bolt that was holding the gas tank strap. We'll let you get a good angle here: right there. It's a 15 millimeter bolt and we're going to remove that.
Here's the new gas tank strap on left from 1AAuto.com and the old one on the right. You can see there's a little bit of a difference up on that bottom, or up on the top corner where it connects to the frame and we went and got just a little bit longer M10 bolt, just help get the tank up in there. Also, our original bolt wasn't looking to good.
You put the strap up into place, just has a tongue that goes into the grove and you'll want to support it with the jack stand, sorry support it with the jack, and then push the bolt up in and just tighten it up. We're going to let the jack back down and then we're going to repeat the same process for that front strap, even though the front straps not broken, it's probably not far behind the rear strap, as far as rusting out. So, we'll replace the front strap using the same method.
With that strap removed, we'll remove the jack out of there and we're going to put our shield back on. It's supposed to hang from the passenger's side of the tank. It hangs from there and then you bolt it on. We'll replace the bolts, but all the hangers on the passenger's side are rusted, so we're just going to use a bungee cord and support it as best we can. You can see right here, those slots in the shield are supposed to go up and hang from the metal that's coming down, but that's no longer there.

Gas tank straps for a 2006 chevy 2500 hd LT

The straps that I purchased did not fit. The gas tank on a stock chevy 2500 hd lt 2006 has more of a square shape tank. The straps are for a angle sided gas tank. Thankfully, I can use the metal straps for welding pieces and they won't have to be scraped. I have purchased other products from you with no problems. I hope to continue that trend with only this one misshap.
