Customer Q&A
How to replace??

Pull the bottom cover under steering column only a few screws it'll come off relatively easy . Once that is off the bracket is right there 3-4 screws holding it on be careful not to strip them as they are lock righted in there. Taking the old one off be careful not to damage main shift cable new one installs the opposite of removal make sure the cable is not twisted or in a bind it is a rather tight area to work in have patience an it'll go back together easy I spent a 1/2 hr total replacing mine hope this helps

We do not list these part numbers for this part. We do list the OE part number 26091246. You can call the dealer with your VIN number and see if this part number will work for your vehicle.

Check shifting cable to transmission to make sure nothing is jammed up if all looks well an the transmission shifts easy with the cable disconnected Replace the shifting cable, it should not shift hard at all, should be very smooth!

Mine shifts all the way, but is still difficult after replacement. I suspect the hard shift is in the cable on mine. It probably caused the shifter breakage initially.

Mine was stiff to shift as well. Part to do with the cable and part to do with the shift mechanism. My shift mechanism was for a three speed when my truck has overdrive (4th) so I can not shift it down into 1st. There are two bolt that came loose twice making it Evan harder to shift I had to put lock light on the bolts to keep them from coming loose. Check those bolts make sure they are tight I think they are a torques head.

It's possible the shift cable is pinched under the seat. I don't remember there being any adjustments. My cable was positioned incorrectly under the seat and as the seat was tightened down it made the shifting very hard.

I haven't found one. The ball on mine kept coming off and binding the shifter, I modified it to keep it from coming apart. My truck has overdrive but the shifter doesn't. I'm thinking of buying a steering colum from a junkyard.

Sorry I don't know. Two of these in a year is extreme. I might suggest a different problem causing the yoke to work too hard. Wish I could help.

I don't believe so. GM contracts with a lot of contractors for parts procurement. Dorman is one of them. If your shift selector is sticf or hard to move, I would check the cable between the column and trans. Disconnect it from trans and see how it reacts. It may just need light lubrication.

There are a limited amount of aftermarket companies who make this part.

where does the wire plug in at?

It's not a wire but a cable and it connects in the column for the brake release.

Will this cause a battery drain if not connected ?

Since there are no electrical circuits in this part to draw power, there is nothing in here to drain a battery.
