Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the driver's side master window switch on this 2004 Dodge Intrepid same as any '98 to '04. Tools you'll need are a Phillips screwdriver, a regular screwdriver and, to get the door panel off, having a flashlight and a magnet will be of help as well.
You're going to start by removing a series of Phillips screws: one with a little screwdriver, one right there, one in your door handle pull right there. You're going to remove your speaker grill by prying out. Pry out your speaker grill and then there are three screws here: one there, one up there, and there should be one there, but it's missing on this car. There's a screw there, screw there and then one on the bottom, two, and three on the bottom. You'll also want to take this little piece of trim, and pull it back and out. We're going to speed it up here as I remove those. It counts to be ten Phillips screws and then at the end here, at the end of the fast motion, you'll see me reach into some of those holes with a little extending magnet to pull the screws out so you don't lose them. Once you have those screws out, then you want to grab back here and give it a good pull and lift your door panel up. Pull out on your lock and it will come off. If you want to remove your panel fully, pull it out and there's a little clip right here on your door handle. The clip comes off it and it comes up and then most of these clips just have little pins on them that you push in. This one has actually a little tab that you can hook with your thumb like that, pull down, it comes out. Then there's two little clips here. Just turn them and pull out.
Looking back here on the door panel, here's the switch. There are three screws. Press your screwdriver down into the speaker padding here, and get this first screw going, until you get it out some. It comes out by hand. There are two more screws right back here. Screws come out. The switch comes out, and then, I'll show you the switch from 1A Auto is exactly the same. It's going to go in there and function exactly the same. The connectors are the same.
This switch is working fine in this vehicle so I am going to just replace or put my original one back in. Put it right back into place. It has little locating tabs. Start the screws.
First, I'm going to reconnect all my harnesses to the speaker and put this back into place here, and then, the harness also has a pin that you put in. Hold the door panel close, I'm just reaching over, inserting my lock rod or my door handle rod and putting the clip on. Now, lift the door panel up, make sure your lock button is coming through here, push the top onto there, and push down. Then make sure the pins over here on the side are lining up and push it into place. We'll fast forward a little bit as I do the three bottom screws first. These middle ones for the speaker are kind of difficult because they're really far back. I'm using a magnet. You can either do this or magnetize your screwdriver. I'm just using this long magnet, putting it back in there, feel for it, and start it with magnet. Do the same thing with this one. If you don't have one of these little extendable magnets, it's a great tool to have. For these ones, it's also not bad to have a flashlight around so you can see where they are and get the screwdriver in there on them. Again, there is another one here, right in here but this car was missing that one. Now, we'll speed up the video again as I do the other eight screws and I do have a little trouble with those screws up on the top, they're deep set in there too and if your water shield shifts around, you're just going to have to pierce through the water shield, just a note for you. Slide your trim panel in on here, push it on. These two tabs that go in first on your speaker grill and then it presses on.
