How to Replace Front Brakes 06-10 Ford Explorer

If you want to learn how to properly remove, prepare, and install the front brakes, our experts in this video will show you how

  1. step 1 : Removing the Wheel and Tire
    • Loosen the lug nuts
    • Raise and support the vehicle
    • Remove the lug nuts
  2. step 2 : Removing the Brake Caliper
    • Remove the two 17mm bolts from the brake caliper
    • Pull off the brake caliper
    • Hang the caliper aside with a bungee cord
    • Remove the brake pads
  3. step 3 : Removing the Brake Rotor
    • Remove the two 21mm bolts from the caliper bracket
    • Pull off the caliper bracket
    • Pull off the brake rotor
  4. step 4 : Preparing the Brakes
    • Tap the brake pads out of the brake caliper
    • Pry the brake caliper clips off the caliper with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Clean the caliper and clips with a wire brush
    • Apply brake grease to the clips
    • Pull out each caliper slide
    • Clean each caliper slide
    • Apply brake grease to each caliper slide
    • Clean the wheel hub surface with a wire brush
    • Apply brake grease to the hub surface
    • Slide the new rotor onto the wheel studs backwards
    • Clean the rotor's contact surface with brake cleaner
  5. step 5 : Installing the Brake Rotor
    • Slide the rotor onto the wheel studs
    • Slide an axle nut, if one is available, onto one wheel stud
    • Thread a lug nut onto the wheel stud to hold the rotor in place
    • Put the caliper bracket into place
    • Insert the 21mm bolts into the caliper bracket
  6. step 6 : Installing the Wheel and Tire
    • Slide on the wheel
    • Start the lug nuts by hand
    • Lower the vehicle to the ground
    • Tighten the lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds of torque

Wheres the clips for the pads?

When selling a brake "kit" and not including the hardware to actually install the pads, I wouldnt call that a kit. Ive never bought a set of pads that didnt have the clips on or with them to hold them in the calipers. May want to include that on the description.

So I have to start with the overall feel and look of the quality that these brakes and rotor have. They are nice. The braking feels clean with no noise. The fitment is perfect. Now the price is right. That is the key selling point. Comes in manufacturers box and that is nice to see. Printed name all over the box shows they are on the right track. The shipping box is a little light but no damage during transit. Overall a great Price. Will see how long they last, but time will tell.

Wrong kit for 2015 Explorer Limited

First off, this is not a knock against 1A Auto, I have bought many great parts here and I will continue to do so. The parts included in this kit appeared to be great quality, but this kit is totally wrong for a 2015 Ford Explorer Limited. I bought this vehicle new and it is NOT the police package, just the Limited trim. First I pulled the rear rotors and found that the stock rotors are VENTED, not solid, 345mm units. The ones they shipped (part #1ABRR00408) are solid, 335mm rotors, not 330mm as described and they were shipped in a box that was labeled 340mm. So I was forced to go locally and buy the correct rotors at a chain store. The brake pads they sent for the rear actually were correct (part # 1ABPS02177). Then I pulled one front rotor and found that the ones that they sent (part #1ABRR00427) was the wrong size too. The stock rotors were vented, 350mm and what they shipped was vented 325mm. They actually fit on the car, but they are totally undersized. Also, the brake p

I can’t say how many stars it deserves but I’m unsatisfied with the kit and customer service. Half the kit fit. I should have done more research before I bought but I guess I’ll be going to the parts store instead of using 1a auto. The videos were very helpful but I can’t say I’d recommend them or use them again
