Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to be working with our '01 Ford Ranger. We're going to show you how to remove and replace the TPS or throttle position sensor. This sensor determines the angle of your throttle blade inside of the throttle body and is a very important part of your engine's management. If you like this video please click "subscribe". We have a ton more information on this truck as well as many other makes and models, and if you want this part for your vehicle, you can follow the link in the description over to 1AAuto.com.
The only items you'll need for this repair are a new TPS sensor from 1A Auto and a Phillips head screwdriver.
Your throttle position sensor is located on the side of the throttle body. It's underneath this plastic cover on the top of the engine, but we can access it from the driver's side here. Disconnect the electrical connector by squeezing down on the tab and pulling the connector off of the sensor. Move that off to the side and use this stubby Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws. Remove the screw and the throttle position sensor.
Here we have our old sensor that we removed from our vehicle and our new part from 1AAuto.com. As you can see, with the exception of the color, these sensors are exactly the same. We have the same teeth to lock onto the end of the throttle blade. We have the same two mounting locations and the same three-pin connector on the bottom.
Throttle position sensors are responsible for gauging the angle of the throttle blade inside of your throttle body, which controls the rate and volume of air flow into the motor. A failed TPS sensor can cause check engine lights as well as issues with cruise control, fuel and air delivery into the motor, as well as the air fuel mixture and other emissions related systems. If you have any of these symptoms or a TPS related check engine light, this new part from 1A Auto is going to go in direct fit just like your original equipment and fix you up right.
Line up your throttle position sensor onto the stud of the throttle body and tighten down the two Phillips head screws. Re-install the electrical connector and you're good to go.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
