The problem was with the accessory being lodged in place.
Remove your cigarette light Socket.

Great for what it intended for. First unhook your battery. You will have to insert the small end somewhat at an angle lining it with the cutouts inside the lighter socket. Once you get one side in push it as far as you can in that hole, line up the other side and stick it in the same hole directly opposite. Pull gently and wiggle , this should release the tabs and allow the socket to come out. You may have to turn some what( careful there are wires attached behind) so not too much , it takes patience to do it, never force it. If you have a bezel around your light like my 2005 Suburban. You should remove or loosen it first. It's always a good idea to search information on your particular vehicle so not to break the tabs(like I did) on the. Bezel.

It should be able to help remove them by grabbing the notches inside your lighter then turning and pulling on it gently.
