In this video we're going to replace the trailer harness connector on this 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD. This is the same as most GM trucks and SUVs. The only tools you'll need, probably, are a screwdriver and maybe some penetrating oil.
If you're having trouble with your trailer lights, a lot of time, what it is, is this receptacle can get corroded. Moisture gets in here, and corrodes the contacts. It's actually pretty easy to replace.
You want to disconnect the back here just by pressing on this tab here and working it off. Now, you want to use your screwdriver and there's a little tab right here that you want to push in on and then turn it counterclockwise. It comes out.
You'll see, here's the new one from 1A Auto. That'll go in. I actually used some penetrating oil and sprayed it around, just to make it easier to install it, here. Let's see here. With this hand I'm kind of twisting it clockwise and I'm going to hit it in to get it going. It fits in there nice and tight. Then, just plug in the back here. You're all set to go.

Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the trailer hitch plug on this 2002 Chevy Suburban. It's the same part and similar process on these Suburbans from 2000 to 2013. The items you'll need for this is a new trailer hitch plug from 1AAuto.com, a flat blade screwdriver, and some pliers.
On the back of your trailer hitch plug you'll see this harness. Using a flat blade screwdriver, push the tab and disconnect the harness. Push in this tab on the side, and, using pliers, just twist the plug counterclockwise. When the tabs line up you'll be able to pull the plug out.
On the left is the old trailer hitch plug; on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they'll fit exactly the same. Take your new trailer hitch plug, push it into place, and then twist it clockwise until it's lined up. Now reconnect your harness and you're all set.

Thought my 20 year old plug was my problem. Turns out it was a fuse. No harm in a new plug. Easy to install just a flat head screwdriver and everything went in easy and fit right.

Perfect fit, super easy to install. One thing which concerned me was the Dorman label; I have been disappointed by other Dorman products. However, on the back side of this assembly is the name Pollak. That is the same company which made the original GM part.
