Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a power mirror switch on this 2001 Volkswagen Beetle, it's the same part and similar process on these Beetles from '98 to 2010. The items you'll need for this are a new power mirror switch from 1AAuto.com, flat blade screwdriver, T20 Torx driver, and a Phillips screwdriver.
Start off by prying off this panel on your pull handle. Behind that there are two Phillips screws. Just go ahead and remove both of those. At the bottom of the door panel, there are three T20 Torx bolts. We'll go ahead and remove those three. Now, you just want to pull out on the panel just around the edge. Any screws that you loosened up all the way but wouldn't pull out entirely, they will fall out now, so just keep an eye on where they go. When all the clips are free except the top of the door panel, you just want to reach up here and pull it out of the track and pull it forward.
On the back of your door panel, you'll see a bunch of harnesses. Just push the tab and pull the harnesses free. For your door handle cable, just pull it out of the bracket and then unhook it. Just disconnect this harness for your door lock. For these two larger harnesses down here, you just want to pry them free with a flat blade screwdriver. Now, then just push the tab on this harness and disconnect your courtesy light.
Flip over your door panel and then pry out on these tabs on either side of your power mirror switch, and at the same time, you want to apply pressure to the back of the switch to help push it through and it pulls out.
Take your new switch and you have to line it up so that's going straight up and in and then just push it up into place.
To reinstall your door panel, just reconnect each of those harnesses. Then reclip your door handle cable and just push it back into that bracket and make sure you reconnect your courtesy light. Now, put the door panel back into the track and then just push it down. Then just hit in the clips around the edge of the door panel and then replace those three T20 screws and the two Phillips screws and the pull handle. Just replace that panel and hit into place and you're all set.

Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a power mirror switch on this 2004 Volkswagen Jetta and it's the same part and process on these Jettas from '99 to 2005. The items you'll need for this are a new power mirror switch from 1AAuto.com, flat blade screw driver, T20 Torx Bit and ratchet, and a Phillips screwdriver.
Start off by prying off this panel inside your pull handle. Now, lift your switch panel up and out and just push the tab on this harness and disconnect it. Then using a Phillips screwdriver, you want to remove these three Phillips screws and we'll just fast forward as Don removes those. At the bottom of your door panel, you want to remove these three T20 Torx bolts and we'll fast forward as Don removes those. Then just remove this Phillips screw up here in the top corner of the door panel. Reach in behind the door panel and just pull out, release the clips and then lift it up in and out of the window sill and over the lock. Then you want to pull back on this clip and lift the hook up and out of the door handle. Push the tab on this harness and release it. Do the same for this. Push the tabs on either side of this harness and pull it free. Then just push the tabs on the rest of these harnesses and pull them free. Now your door panel is free.
On the back of your door panel, push down on the switch and pry out from these three sides and it will push right through. On the left is the old switch, on the right is the new one. You can see they're very similar and they'll fit exactly the same and work the same. Take your new switch and push it into place.
Now, to reinstall your door panel, you just want to reconnect these harnesses. Then take your door handle rod and you want to hook it back into the door handle and then slide that clip back into the door handle. Now, put the panel up over the lock rod and then down into the window sill. Make sure you pull your harness for your switch back up through and then line up the clips and hit them back into the door. We'll fast forward as Don replaces and tightens up those three Phillips screws. Then replace those three T20s and replace that Phillips screw up in the top corner and tighten it up. Now, reconnect your switch panel and then just push the panel down into place and then line up this panel and push it firmly into place and you're all set.

Haven't tried the defroster option, but the switch overall works great!! Installation gave me a bit of a hard time, but with a bit of filing down, it went in pretty easily!
Functions as advertised.
