Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the turn signal and wiper switch on this 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo. It's the same part and similar process on these Monte Carlos from 2000 to 2005. The items you'll need include a new turn signal and wiper switch from 1AAuto.com, 7mm socket and ratchet, T25 Torx bit, flat blade screwdriver, E5 external Torx bit, 1/4" wrench, and wire cutters.
Underneath your steering wheel you'll see this panel. You want to just push in these two tabs and pull it down, then twist this socket free, and pull the bulb out. Then you want to remove these two 7mm screws. Pull out your fuse panel door. Especially make sure that the lower clip comes out. Then pull straight back on the lower panel on both sides. Then use a small flat blade screwdriver to help you release the clip on the harness, and remove the harness. Inside here is a T25 screw. Just go ahead and remove that. Then pry out on this lever, and it just pulls free. Then you can pull the panel straight down, unhook it, and pull it forward.
Next, you want to remove these two E5 external Torx bolts. There's one right here, and then one right here on the other side. We'll just fast-forward as Mike removes those. Once those are removed, you can pull this upper panel up and off. Your wiper and turn signal switch are held on with these two bolts. Just go ahead and remove both of them, both of them being T25 Torx bolts. To remove this one, you can't get a ratchet or a Torx driver in there, so what we use is a 1/4" wrench and a T25 Torx bit, and we just use that to loosen it up and then remove it the rest of the way by hand.
Now pull it down and then clip this wire tie. Now, back in here, you'll see another wire tie, but instead of clipping this one, you just want to pull down the tab and twist it. It'll pop free, and then you can just pull your harness down. Right here is the other end of your harness. To remove this clip, you want to just pull this lever back and flip it to the other side. Then the harness will just pull free. Okay, there may be another wire tie that needs to be clipped. Once you do that, pull the harness out, and you can see there is another connection that needs to be disconnected. If your car has cruise control, there will be even another connection beyond this that you have to disconnect.
On the left is the old wiper and turn signal switch; on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they'll fit exactly the same. Okay, take your new switch and feed the harness back into the dash. Reconnect this harness as well as, again, if your car has cruise control, there will be an additional harness there that needs to be reconnected. All right, now can you see into that. Now just re-clip it into that clip, reconnect the harness, and then just flip this back to lock it. Then you just want to feed your wiper and turn signal switch back into place. Once you get it lined up, replace those two T25 Torx bolts. You can see here he's using a wrench to just tighten up that bolt. Now push this forward, tilt the wheel up, and re-wire tie this wire. Tilt the steering wheel back down, feed this upper panel back into place, push it back down, and replace those two E5 inverted Torx bolts.
Now feed in the lower panel. You want to push the back back behind and re-clip those two hooks. Then swing up the front and push it into place. Then just replace that T25 Torx screw. Reconnect the harness to your switch, line up the panel, and push it back into place. Then replace the two 7mm bolts at the bottom of the panel. Push the bulb back into the socket, twist it back into this panel, and then feed the panel back. Then just push it back up into place and you're all set. Just finish off by pushing the tilt lever back into place, and putting your fuse panel cover back into place.
