Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20+ year's experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video we're going to be replacing a window regulator on this '07 Toyota Corolla same as any '03 to '08 Corolla. The tools you'll need for this project are flat blade screwdrivers both medium and small, Phillips screwdriver, a 10mm socket with ratchet and extension, or just a wrench, a putty knife or door panel clip tool.
So in the interest of time we're going to fast forward through removing the door panel. If you want to see this in real time, you can check our other videos for the Toyota Corolla door panel removal. You can probably pick up enough here. It's basically unclipping a bunch of stuff, taking out a few screws, and pulling a few pins. So we'll get through this and then get you to the regulator. Then take and unhook your speaker here, and then you want to pull carefully on this whole shield. It might help you if you just get a putty knife out and just kind of cut right through. If you notice, I've put the window down and I've got some tape up there all part of getting the regulator out. I'm going to undo this, and to get the window down I just plug the switch back in. I'm going to take this plate off here and you can see there's one bolt here and then you can access the front bolt through here. Now, if your window regulator is broken, or your power window motor is broken, you may be able to move the window up and down, but if not, you can get to these bolts either through here or up in through here. Not the most ideal, but you can get to them with a 10mm wrench and get them off. That's probably the most difficult part of when your window regulator breaks is having to get to those bolts when they're in odd places on the car. So I'm going to remove these bolts. Now the window will come away from the window regulator, and I'm just lifting it up by hand and get my tape. To remove the regulator there's going to be one, two, three, four, five, actually six, and it looks like maybe this car's had something done to it before and somebody forgot to put a bolt back in.
Now, ideally, this is the last bolt you want to undo because you would just actually lift it up and off, but since I said either this car wasn't put together correctly, or it's been worked on before I'm taking that one out and then the whole assembly comes down and right out. Here we have the original and this is the 1AAuto. A couple of things I'd like to point out to you. Our manufacturer it's a thicker cross section piece here than the original. This is also, these bends in here, make this whole arm on our new one more durable, and then the only difference that you really have to take note of when installing is ours comes with a pigtail like this so it's important when you put it up in there, you actually pull this all the way through and secure it outside.
So what I'm going to do is first I'm going to put a bolt right onto this one because it hangs up on that one. Then I'm going to put it up in there just like I did with the other one, and there's my bolt, and now like I said with this one let's get another bolt in here just to secure it. Like I said with this you want to pull this all the way through, and then you can maybe wrap it around like this, and then plug it in. What you don't want to do is you just want to make sure that his harness isn't kind of flopping around loose in there where it could get caught up with the window.
Now I'm going to bolt the rest of it together. This bolt is for the window to the regulator. This bolt is the window regulator to the door. Now I'm going to let the window down. So with this hand I'm just kind of pulling on the regulator this way and then this hand getting the bolt going in there. That's it. So now I'm going to tighten up these bolts down here. Then I'm actually going to run the regulator up, and now I'm going to tighten these bolts here. Now I just obviously tested my regulator and it worked so everything looks good.
Put this plate back on. What I do is I find a reference point so this hole here and then that hole there, and I'm holding them, and then I'm going to stick it all on there. I've got this hole right here for the door handles. Put our handle back on. Just in the interest of time we're going to just kind of speed through installing the door panel. If you do want to see this in real time, just look for our door panel removal and installation under Toyota Corolla.
