Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the tailgate handle. The one on our truck is functioning fine, so we just actually take it off and put it back on to show you how to do it. Tools you'll need include a T30 Torx bit and a 10mm socket, and you'll also need a ratchet.
You're going to have to use a T30 Torx bit and remove all the bolts that hold on the backing panel on your bed here. I'm going to cheat a little bit by using a ratchet, an air ratchet. Now I'll speed it up here as I remove all those bolts. I'm going to pull this up and off.
Now, inside, we can see how it works. A lot of times what happens is this part right here breaks off, or this shears off. You can see mine's in good shape, so I'm going to take it off and put it back on to show you.
These clips just push off the rods. Now we have to remove these two 10mm bolts. Once you get those out there's two little pins. You just get those out, and then your handles out.
Reinstallation, pretty much a reverse of the procedure, you put it up in; begin your bolts in a little way. You don't' want to over tighten these, get them nice and snug. Then the rods back in, the clip back on. The red rod goes to the top.
A little high speed action here as you slip that panel back in and then put all the bolts back in. One note: the ones that run along the top, they have the larger washers.
