Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!
In this video, we're going to show you how to change the tail light, both the bulb as well as if you broke a whole assembly. We're going to show you on the passenger side on this 2007 Audi A4. It's the same procedure for the driver side. It's the same for 2005-2008, and it's probably very similar for the 2003 and 2004 model as well.
The repair doesn't require many tools. You'll need a new tail light from 1AAuto.com if your tail light's broken, as well as a flat blade screwdriver.
Open up the trunk of your vehicle and on either side you could see a round indentation on the trim. Pry that out and then right inside there's either a reverse bolt that you have to have a special tool, or you can just put a flat blade screwdriver. Medium size right in there and counterclockwise to unscrew the bolt that holds the tail light in. And just if you're curious, the little red tab there is actually your emergency fuel door release if you needed to pull it open manually. You could pull that out, pull on it, and this disengages the fuel door if your battery's dead or the actuator stops working.
To get that tail light out the rest of the way, pull it pretty much diagonally out the back so kind of back into the side. Still have a couple of pins that are holding it in place, and then it comes out and there is a connector there. There's a tab, press on that with your thumb to pull it off. If you're just looking to change the bulbs, there's a tab on the top and bottom. Push the tab down and release, pull out on that black bulb plate a little bit and then on the other side, push it down and then the whole circuit board with the bulbs in it comes out.
To replace the bulb push in, turn counterclockwise about a quarter of a turn, and pull it out, and then to replace it just push it in, turn it clockwise a quarter turn to lock it back in, and then the whole bulb circuit board goes right back in.
If your light's from 1AAuto, if you've had damage to your taillight, we offer a very nice replacement that's going to install like the original. Everything plugs in exactly the same which you'll see here.
The new tail light goes right on. The original plug connects, and then there is just a little shipping piece of tape over the O-ring, you can see that O-ring will come off. You need to make sure that's in place when you reinstall your light. To make sure the O-ring stays on there, guide those pins into the grommets in the quarter panel on the outside, push the light in place, and then reinstall the bolt. Make sure you put the pole for the emergency release handle on the passenger side back in place and reinstall the bolt. You want to tighten up, you can tighten it up. Be careful not to overtighten it. It needs to be nice and firm but you don't have to go too crazy.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
