Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the hood support strut on a '97 Buick Le Sabre. It's going to be very similar to other styles of GMs, and you're going to need small flat blade screwdriver, a new hood support strut from 1A Auto, and someone to support the hood for you while you're doing the work.
Have someone supporting the hood for you at this point. Okay, I'm using a flat blade screwdriver, and the tabs bending them out of the way so that they'll go over the pin. Once I've got them bent, pull it off and I'm going to do the same thing for the top. And just note that this process is the same for the other side.
I'm going back in with the hood support strut, and it's just going to clip right back into its posts.

In this video, we fix a sagging hood. Normally you'll notice that your hood won't stay up when you put it up. Usually in the cold, during the winter time, it starts kind of sagging down and then as the struts get worse, that even happens in the summer time. It's an easy job to fix. You just need a small flat blade screwdriver.
If you've got one of these cars, you may be familiar with using the dust mop to keep the hood up. It's actually pretty easy problem to solve. You're going to replace the hood strut here and you want to replace both sides. It's pretty easy. Use a little screwdriver and pry out on this clip here and then do the same thing down here. There's a clip here you pry out on.
While you have your mop, hold it up, or probably even better, have an assistant. Like I said, just take a little screwdriver, and pry out on this clip. There goes the mop, there. Back down here, pry out and the strut comes off.
The new strut from 1A Auto is very easy to install. You just press it right on and press it on here. You take care of the mop out, replace the other side and you'll be all set.
