In this video, we're going to show you how to replace your old worn out blower motor in the 2005 Cadillac CTS with the new part from 1AAuto.com. Here are the items you'll need for this repair.
The blower motor is located under this plastic cover on the bottom passenger side of the dash just behind the glove box. Start by removing these two Phillips head screws. Remove these two 7 millimeter bolts at the back. You use a 7 millimeter socket, ratchet, and some extensions for that. Push in and release these two tabs and allow the lower cover to hang out of the way.
Push down on the tab and release the electrical connector from the blower motor. Remove these three 8 millimeter screws with an 8 millimeter socket and ratchet. In order to access the last bolt on the blower motor we'll have to remove the inner glove box lining, removing these Phillips head screws. Remove the glove box partially and release the connector on the back of the tire pressure monitoring switch. You may need a small flat blade screwdriver here. Now that the inner glove box is moved out of the way we can access the last screw on the blower motor. Pull out and remove the blower motor from the HVAC box.
As you can see the fans are nearly identical. They have the same mounting locations on the back as well as the same two pin connectors. What can happen a lot of times with these old fans is the motors seize up or go bad and it may cause the fan to not work at all or if you give it a good hit on the bottom it'll wake the fan up and get it spinning again. Also, these fins can break and become off balance or the bearings can go bad and cause this to make a whining noise or vibrate and create kind of an odd hum when it's spinning. This new part from 1A Auto is going to go in direct fit just like our original equipment and fix you up right.
Install the new blower motor into the HVAC box. Reinstall your three 8 millimeter screws. Tighten the screws down with an 8 millimeter socket and ratchet. Reinstall the electrical connector. Reinstall the connector to the TPMS reset button. Line up and reinstall the inner glove box and all its hardware. Reinstall the under dash cover with two Phillips head screws. Reinstall the two 7 millimeter bolts in the rear, socket, ratchet, and extensions. Turn on your heat or air conditioner and cycle it through the fan speeds to ensure that everything is operating properly.
