In this video we're going to be working with our 1996 GMC Sierra K1500 5.7-liter Vortec V8. We're going to show you how to remove and replace your airflow restrictor gauge. This measures the restriction of airflow into your intake manifold and is a easy way to gauge the quality of your air filter without needing to take anything apart.

While you will need a new airflow restrictor gauge from 1AAuto.com, there are no tools required for this procedure.
Your airflow restriction gauge is located here right behind your intake air box. Simply wiggle that up and out of its gasket. We're going to replace it with a new GM unit. What this does is it gauges restriction and airflow. This little bar will come down and down and down as the flow gets more restricted.
Once you get down into this little red zone here, you know it's time to change your air filter. Make sure that gauge, there's three of them around the sides. Make sure one of them is facing somewhere that's easy to read. Push the gauge back down into the gasket and push the button on the top to reset it just like you would if you replaced your air filter.
