Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. We've been selling auto parts for over 30 years. We're dedicated to delivering quality auto parts, expert customer service, fast and free shipping, all backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee. Visit us at 1AAuto.com, your trusted source for quality auto parts.
Open your fuel door and remove the two T30 Torx screws securing it to the bed of the truck. Loosen the other three T30 Torx screws around the filler neck. Once the screws are loose you should be able to work the back side of the fuel door around the rubber.
Once the fuel door is removed, use a flat blade screwdriver to pry the spring out of it's hook and then pop it up out of its tabs in the rear here. Slide the spring out of the assembly.
Here we have our old spring and our new part from 1AAuto.com. You can see that the shape is exactly the same, so it's going to fit right in there and make everything move nice. The other thing is you can see we have a coated steel here, which is going to be a lot stronger and more resistant to rust, meaning it will last longer and do what we want it to do. So if your old fuel door spring is broken, rusted out or failed, this new part from 1A Auto will go and direct fit just like our original equipment and fix you up right.
Slide your spring back into the assembly, work it around back into place and back into their slots in the fuel door. You may need your screwdriver to help pry it out here. Once those are in place, push down. This takes a little bit of force so watch yourself, keep your hands out of the way in case the screwdriver slips, you don't want to hurt yourself. Reinstall the fuel door. Line up your two T30 Torx bolts and reinstall them. Tighten up the other T30s you loosened and you're good to go.
Thanks for watching. Visit us at 1AAuto.com for quality auto parts, fast and free shipping, and the best customer service in the industry.

As it turns out the fuel door spring was not broken. the spring retainer on the fuel door had rusted off. I repaired the fuel door with a coat hanger spot welded in place of the original retainer and reused the original spring. the service on the new spring was great, received it in two days with no charge for shipping. I will probably use 1A auto parts again if I need parts in the future.
