Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the idle air control valve on this 1996 Chevy Tahoe. It's the same part and process on these Tahoes from 1996 to 2000. The items you'll need for this are a new idle air control valve from 1AAuto.com and a T20 Torx bit and ratchet with an extension.
Your idle air control valve is located right here. You want to just pull back on the tab and then remove that harness, and then remove these two T20 Torx bolts. We'll just fast forward as Don does that. Now you can just pull it right out.
On the left, is the old idle air control valve. On the right, is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll mount exactly the same. Now, push your new idle air control valve into place and then replace those two T20 Torx bolts. You can see he just replaces the bolts by hand and then tightens them up with that bit and ratchet. Reconnect the harness and you're all set.
We hope this video helps you out. Brought to you by www.1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet. Please feel free to call us toll-free, 888-844-3393. We're the company that's here for you on the Internet and in person.

Here are the items you'll need for this repair.
Lift up on the latches and remove the upper portion of air box. Unplug the intake air tab and mass airflow sensors. Pop the breather line off and undo the thumb screw. Rock the upper part of the intake forward and remove it from the vehicle. Your IAC or idle air control valve is located on the back of the throttle body on the driver's side. This is a little electronically actuated solenoid that changes the amount of airflow allowed to pass the throttle body for when your foot is off the throttle and the blade is closed. To replace this, we'll remove the electrical connector. You can then remove the two T20 Torx bolts with a Torx bit and a ratchet. Once the bottom bolt is loose, you can remove your idle air control valve.
Now that it's out, you can see where that bottom bolt hole is that sits in there kind of like this angle and it's pretty tricky to see that one once it's in the car, so you just got to feel around for it.
Reinstall the idle air control valve and start the T20 Torx bolts. Once the bolts are started, you can tighten them down with your T20 Torx bit and the ratchet. Reconnect your electrical connector.
Reinstall the intake tube by hooking the tab over the front of the throttle body and setting them back into place. Reinstall the thumb screw onto the stud. Reinstall the tube into the filter as well as locking into the back of the air box. Reconnect your mass airflow and intake air temp sensors. Drop the lid back into place. Secure the tabs. Install the breather line and you're good to go.

The idle air control vavle would idle high then low with no consistency.
It would also make my truck hard to start. The truck shutdown on me
A few times since the idle air control valve was installed. I clean the old
Valve and reinstalled it. My truck started and ran without any problems...
Love 1A Auto. I refer everyone..

I Have been working on cars, trucks, vans, etc. Someone told me about 1A Auto. Prices are my favorite. Their products are excellent! The only reason I would go to a competitor would be for an immediate Item needed. The shipping is fast, but not immediate. Thanks for affordable products.

I purchased the idle air control valve for my 98 GMC Yukon which at startup my gmc would run at 1800 rpm then when warmed up it would idle at 1200 rpm and was sticking at high idle so I replaced the valve and it starts every morning and runs at 1000 rpm till warmed up then it stays at 800 rpm definitely fixed my high idle issue

I bought this part figuring replacing it with a new one would be better than cleaning the old one. The problem that I was having got way worse with the new one. After trouble shooting the truck for two days I cleaned the old one and put it back in all my problems went away. Now runs like new!
Maybe I got a bad one
