Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the coolant overflow tank on this 1996 Chevy Tahoe. It's the same part and a similar process on a large variety of GM trucks. It's the same process on these Tahoes from 1995 to 1999.The items you'll need for this include a new coolant overflow bottle from 1AAuto.com, a 13mm socket and ratchet, a flat blade screwdriver, and a pair of pliers.
Your coolant overflow bottle is at the back of your engine compartment and held in with these two 13mm bolts. We'll just fast-forward as Don removes those. Now, lift the bottle up and out and just turn it onto its side.
Using a flat blade screwdriver, just pry this clip free and then slide it down. Now you just want to pry that hose down and once you pull it off. If there's any coolant in the bottle, just put your finger over it and drain it somewhere.
On the right is the old coolant overflow bottle; on the left is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical, and they're going to mount the same. Remove the hose from your old bottle, put it into place on your new one, push this hose onto your bottle, and make sure it's all the way on there.
Now slide that hose clamp back out and, using a pair of pliers, just pinch it back together. You want to put that tab down into that clip and slide it down in. Then replace those two 13mm bolts and tighten them up. Then remove your cap and replace the coolant up to the top of that cold line. Then you're all set.
