Brought to you 1AAuto.com. Your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the internet. Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20 plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly, that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we're going show you how to replace the power window regulator in this 1998 Dodge Durango, same as '98 to '03. Tools you'll need are Phillips screwdriver, 10 millimeter socket ratchet and extension, painters tape and pliers.
Be careful in removing your plastic water shield. With that water shield off, you can now see the basic components. Here's obviously your window rolled down. If your window regulator is broken then you're going to be able to move your window up and down without a problem. Here's one bolt, and there's another bolt. Those two bolts clamp the regulator to the window, okay, and then here's two bolts down here. Those are the lower bolts for the regulator. Two bolts up here, the upper bolts of the regulator. Three nuts here which hold the window motor. Then here is your connector for the window motor. You can see there's a little lock, a little red lock here. First I'm going to use a pair of pliers to remove this little red lock. That will now allow me to disconnect my window motor. Next I'm going to need a 10 millimeter socket ratchet and loosen these two bolts here. To remove these two bolts.
I've remove those all the way. You see I've draped some painters tape at the top of the window frame, and that's where I'm going to slide the window up and hold it into place. Now, just lift the window right up. Hold it in place with the tape. Now our window's up and held in place with a tape. Now, I'm going to remove this top bolt. Remove this large bolt with the large washer. Okay, remove this down here, this bolt. You're going to reach through here and pull the harness back through. Now I'm going to loosen the rest of my bolts and nuts. Okay, now the regulator comes out. Then I lift my window motor off, out. Here, I struggle a little bit with the regulator. Actually, if you kind of leave the motor in and pull them out both at once at the same time, it comes out a little easier. You can see the regulator and motor coming right out through that hole right there.
Okay, here I have the new regulator from 1A Auto. I did transfer the two bolts that can go in and hang and then this regulator is meant to fit multiple doors so you just need to make sure you follow the correct bolt pattern on the motor and slide the window regulator in, and then kind of rotate it into place and then reach in with the other hand and put the motor in and you can it's sliding into place with the two bolts, and then the regulator, the rail. Make sure you bring it on the inside of the window and slide those into place and then start your other bolts that hold it into place. Then the last bolt that holds the motor, and then you want to tighten these up and when tighten them up, you want to tighten them firm, probably 15 to 20 foot pounds. And here, I'm reconnecting the motor. The clip did break when I pulled it out so you don't need to put that red clip back in. If it doesn't break, you can put it back in but it's not totally necessary. Just make sure you clip it together nice and secure. Then again, like I said, tighten up all the bolts nice and firm, 15 to 20 foot pounds.
Now, I'm going to reach up here, and I'm just peeling the tape off the window that held the window in place and let the window down slowly. It's down. Just pull the one here. So the way this came to the factory, it's a little bit low so I just reconnected my switch here. Roll it up just a tiny bit. Okay. I'll use my extension to move them in. Tighten these up. We'll do a test before we put everything back together. It all works pretty good. It is working a little bit slow because the truck isn't on so the alternator isn't going. Then I'll put my water shield back on. Now I'll put my door panel back on. Okay, we're going to speed to putting our door panel back on. If you do want to see this in regular time, just check out our other video, the door panel video to see it in regular motion. You can probably figure out enough by getting it apart to get it all back together. We hope this helps you out.
