Hey friends. It's Lenny here at 1A Auto. Today, we're gonna be working on a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 and we're gonna be replacing the tranny mount. If you need this or any other part, check us out at 1aauto.com. Thanks.
Okay, so we're gonna use our 17-millimeter socket, an extension and I'm just gonna use my air gun. If I'm using an air gun, of course, gonna have my safety glasses on and we're gonna take off this nut up here. You can also use a ratchet, but it's a 17-millimeter nut. If I can get that nut out of there. It's what it looks like, nothing special. It's also a lock washer that's well locked on the stud there, we'll have to get that down. There it is. Generally speaking, the lock washers aren't reusable, if you don't have access to a new one, you could use a little bit of threadlocker and continue with a lock washer if you wanted to. Set that aside. I'm gonna do the same thing to the other one. Just try to get my socket up on there, a little bit of rust coming down here. Okay, so we've got the nut and the washer off of there or the lock washer. There's also another washer, a nice big flat one, and that kind of just covers the slotted area where the stud goes through. Okay. Obviously, if you had the crush washer or the lock washer there, it probably wouldn't have worked out too well. So they did a flat washer and then the lock washer and then the nut.
All right, so if you pay attention right up along here, what you'll notice is the metal part of the transmission mount separates from the rubber part, and it's not supposed to do that. So that right there means that your transmission mount is no good. So we're gonna take out this bolt right here and this one right over here. We're gonna use our 15-millimeter socket, nice and short, try to get it in here once we get it broken free and coming down as far as it can come down, really, we'll have to switch and probably use something like a ratchet wrench or something to that effect. I'm just gonna put this on here, see if I can get it to break free. This hasn't been off in a long, long time I'm sure. Just try to work some penetrant in here. Nice. We got one, it's a little warm. We'll set this aside and we'll do the other one. Awesome. All right. See if we can bring this transmission up a little bit, I'd say that's about it. Now let's see if we can get this outta here. Should apart as one piece, but obviously it's not. But, that's what our old transmission mount looks like.
Here we go, friends, time for the install. Brand new 1A Auto part here. Can spin it around. There really isn't any front to back, everything's the same, doesn't matter how you look at it. Just gonna go right in like this. Find the holes in the bottom just like that, put our studs through then line it up. Now we're just gonna bring down the transmission a little bit, bring it close to the mount. We're not gonna rest it directly on top yet only because we need to line up the holes. Once we get the bolts in these holes up here at that point we can lower it down the rest of the way and then we'll put it on our nuts and washers down here and we'll get it finished up. Just like that. This still moves around. Awesome. Can use a little bit of threadlocker if you'd like. We'll say it's your prerogative. For the purpose of this video, which is just an instructional video, I'm not gonna worry about it. Let me get this on, started here. My socket off of there. My other bolt, whoops, the wrong way. Just wiggle the mount around till it lines up. Let's bring this up a little bit. See if I can get my socket in here.
At this point, I'm gonna tighten these right up because I have both of them started. We'll lower the jack down outta here, this out of the way. We can see our studs coming through. This is awesome. Now we're gonna grab our washers and the nut. Okay, so you've got a regular washer, got a locking washer, right, and you've got your nut. You're gonna go regular, which is the biggest, then the locking and the nut. Just like that. Put them on there. Threadlocker if you'd like. Just gonna start it on there a little bit, I'm gonna do the same to the other one. Time to snug these up, 17-millimeter. It's bottomed out. All right. Both of those are bottomed out. I'm just gonna use a ratchet and a 17-millimeter now so I can control how tight I'm making this.
Okay, it's pretty much stopped there, I'm just giving it a teeny bit more. Pretty much stopped there, that's it. Awesome. So we've got our 1A Auto transmission mount mounted in. Looks really good. We know all four mounting bolts are tight, our bolts and nuts there. And that's it. Get out from underneath the vehicle, down the road you go.
