Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're working with our 2001 Ford Ranger. We're going to show you how to remove the third brake light lens. This is helpful if you're replacing the lens itself, or if you just need to get at the back of the housing to replace some bad bulbs.
If you like this video, please click subscribe. We have a ton more information on this truck as well as many other makes and models. If you want these parts for your car, you can follow the link down in the description over to 1AAuto.com.
The only items you'll need for this repair include the lens or the bulbs—depending on what you’re getting in there to change—and a number two Phillips head screwdriver.
Remove the two Phillips head screws from the lens. Remove the lens.
Now, if you need to replace the whole assembly, you can disconnect this connector here. A new one would simply snap into place, or if you just in here to change the bulbs, quarter turn counter clockwise removes the bulb socket from the lens. Remove the bulb by pulling straight out.
Install your new bulb. Install your bulb socket into the housing, and turn it clockwise to lock it back into place. These steps are the same for the other two bulbs if you need to replace them.
We'll place our lens back onto the truck, and reinstall our two Phillips head screws.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.

In this video, we're going to show you to how to service the third brake light. We'll just replace a bulb as well as replace the entire unit itself if it's been damaged. The only tool you'll need is a Philips screwdriver.
To service this third brake light, you'll just need a Philips screwdriver. The light comes out. If you want to service a bulb, you can either disconnect the whole thing like this. Now the bulb just twist counterclockwise, pull them out and then they just pull from the socket, back in clockwise to lock. If you just had a little mishap at the lumber yard or just want a nice fresh look on your truck. From 1A Auto, you're just going to plug in, it will go right in place. We're going to shove the wiring in here just a little bit. We're going to get the screws to find the clip back there. Quick test.

The lens on my cargo light/3rd brake light was fades and dull. I had shined it a few times, but the shine never lasted very long. So I decided to order a new one.The part arrived promptly and the installation was so easy Since all the bulbs and the wiring harness was included. I only had to remove and replace 2 screws an.d unplug and plug in one connector. Viola a shiny new cargo light and 3rd brake light.

High Mount Third Brake Light

I ordered a high mount third brake light which is located on the back of the cab from 1A-Auto and it is a much better light than the original light that was on the ford truck. The original light only had one bulb with a red lens all the way across. The light I ordered from 1A-AUTO has three bulbs with a red lens in the middle for the brake and the outside lens are clear which when I turn the dimmer switch off I then have the two bulbs come on that helps light the bed of the truck.

Great product. Fits perfectly and easy to install. Comes with bulbs! My only concern is it does not have the weather strip water shield piece on the top like the factory OEM does, so make sure to add some silicone or a gasket to ensure watertight seal. Overall satisfied!

No, the rubber seal is built into the light; to my understanding, Ranger specific part.

I do not know if the F250 requires a special gasket. But the assembly was an instant bolt on for my Ranger. The light assembly has the bulbs, wires and black edge around the lens.Just plug it in and use the original mounting screws.

I did 2006 f350 that over heated for whatever reason and ran sealant around to eliminate possible moisture issue didn't feel 2 screws would be adaquit, other than that simple job works no problems.

This part comes just as pictured with the wiring. It is meant to be installed as-is, so we cannot guarantee it will work if you try to use the existing wiring off your original.
