Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we show you how to replace the transmission speed sensor on this 1998 Honda Civic with the 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine. It's the same part and process on these Civics from 1996 to 2000. The only items you'll need for this are a new transmission speed sensor from 1AAuto.com and a 12 millimeter socket and ratchet with an extension.
Your transmission speed sensor is located right back here. It's got a harness plugged in right at the top. You want to just push the tab and disconnect that. It's secured right here with a 12 millimeter bolt. We'll just fast forward as Don removes that. Once that bolt's removed you should just be able to pull that up and out.
On the right, is the old one; on the left, is the new from 1A Auto. You can see they'll connect and mount exactly the same. Take your new transmission speed sensor and feed it down into place. Then twist in that 12 millimeter bolt, by hand, and tighten it up with your socket and ratchet. You want to be careful not to over-tighten it and break the part. Once the bolt's in place, reconnect your harness and you're all set.
We hope this video helps you out. Brought to you by www.1AAuto.com, your source for quality replacement parts and the best service on the Internet. Please feel free to call us toll-free, 888-844-3393. We're the company that's here for you on the Internet and in person.

I put it in a 1997 civic dx hatchback. The maintenance manual groups years 96-00 so seems likely.
