Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the power outlets and cigarette lighters as well as the bezels. This is a 2008 Dodge Ram, but this process is similar for many different vehicles. Items you'll need include new outlets and lighters and bezels from 1AAuto.com, and a flat blade screwdriver with some painter's tape or a plastic prying tool.
To remove your center dash trim, we're going to use a flat blade screwdriver with some painter's tape on it or a non-marring plastic ply tool if you have one. Feel around the edges. Pry out until you get a tab to pop. Carefully move along and pop out the rest of the tabs until you can pull out the whole panel. Move it around your shifter column and lay it out flat. Remove our accessory power, and the passenger heated seats switch.
Push down on the tab to release the power sliding windows switch, the two connectors for the climate control panel, your traction control, driver's heated seat, cigarette lighter, and your four-wheel drive selector.
To remove your power outlet, pop off the cover. Push out on the socket. From there, you need to replace the trim ring as well. You'll see there's a little notch here and a tab on the bezel. Rotate the bezel until it lines up with that notch. Push it out.
The new bezel doesn't come with a socket cover. Peel it off the old trim.
Here, we have our new trim bezel from 1A Auto, universally cut to fit either the power outlet or the cigarette lighter socket. This notch is for our cover, so we'll slide our power outlet cover on and align the arm into that notch.
From there, we'll line up one of the mounting tabs with the notch in the trim panel. Pop it into place and rotate it so our power outlet socket sits upright. Now that we know our power outlet cap is in the right place, we'll align the tabs in our new power outlet socket from 1AAuto.com into the notches in the trim panel.
Push it until it snaps. Pop our cover back on.
Our cigarette lighter socket comes out the same way our power outlet socket did, by pushing on it from the back and sliding it out of the trim panel. You can also replace this trim bezel the same way we did on the other side.
This one's all right, so we'll just install our new socket from 1A Auto. Line up the notches in the socket and push it back into place until it snaps. Reconnect all your connectors.
Each connector is different, so you shouldn't have a problem with crossing them over or connecting them in the wrong spot. Slide your dash behind the gear selector. Line it up. Snap it back into place.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
