In this video we're going to be working with our 2009 Nissan Rogue. We're going to show you how to remove and replace your vehicle's cabin air filter. If you like this video, please click subscribe. We have a ton more information on this and many other vehicles. If you need this part for your car, you can follow the link down in the description over to 1AAuto.com.
There are no tools required for this repair.
Open your driver's door and locate the knee panel on the front part of your center console trim, just to the right of your accelerator pedal. This panel can easily be removed by hand. Just above your accelerator pedal, you'll see the cover for your cabin air filter housing. Undue the latch. You should be able to pull your cabin air filter out.
Normally, I would go easy with this in case it was still in good condition and we could reinstall it. You can see all the debris falling out of it. So I'm pretty confident we're going to be changing this. Now this is likely the original cabin air filter which is not uncommon, because some people don't even know their vehicle comes equipped with these. We've got quite a bit of debris inside of that box. So we're going to use some picks or screwdrivers and pull out the bulk of it and see if we can't get the rest out with a vacuum cleaner.
Here we have what I assume is the original cabin air filter that we removed from our vehicle and our new cabin air filter from 1AAuto.com. As you can see, with the obvious exception of cleanliness, this filter is exactly the same. It's actually upside down there. You cabin air filter separates you and your passengers from all this. There's actually still quite a bit of buildup in there. So your cabin air filter not only keeps this dirt and debris out of your passenger compartment where you and your passengers are breathing, but it also keeps these things out of your HVAC system, which is very important, because all these little dirt debris, sticks, rocks, can get into things like blower motors and actuators and clog them up and cause them to go bad faster. So not only does keeping your cabin air filter in good condition keep you safer, but it also keeps longevity in the parts of your vehicle.
Carefully install your new cabin air filter. Now these are pretty flexible so as long as you go easy, you can bend them a bit to get them in. Just make sure you don't kink or tear them. We can see it pops back up in shape. Reinstall the cover. Reinstall your interior trim panel and pop all the retainers back into place.
