The Jeep Wagoneer is one of the pioneering vehicles in the SUV market. When AMC took control of Jeep in '70 they decided to revamp the Jeep lineup, upgrading features and improving performance. The '78 Wagoneer Limited included air conditioning, power-adjustable seats, power door locks and windows, cruise control, leather upholstery, and woodgrain trim all available for $10,500. Despite the high price, people readily bought the Jeep Wagoneer Limited. In 1984, the second generation Wagoneer - the Jeep Wagoneer (XJ) debuted. In '87 Chrysler purchased Jeep, making few changes to the vehicle. Rising gas prices and demand for smaller vehicles led to the Jeep Wagoneer's demise in 1991, though a poorly constructed Wagoneer returned for a final production year in '93. Jeep Wagoneers can still be found, wood grain intact, thanks in part to enthusiasts that rebuild and resell Wagoneers.
